I loved art from a very young age. I admired the students who could "draw perfect." However, my teachers saw something special in my work and encouraged me to continue.
I was lucky. Even though my visual impairment made my work far from perfect, all of my art teachers found beauty in it. If it was not for them, I would not be an artist today.
Why do some schools do things like this to such young kids?
I hope I never did this to any student I taught. I always tried to recognize various artistic abilities. I tried to support all the students who loved the creative process. Children are gifted in art in so many different ways. So lets celebrate creativity across the board! Art will be a special part of every child's life for the rest of their life. Give them the tools to love it forever.
