Elizabeth Castellano, art educator and visual artist, offers private art lessons that are based on famous artists and cultures while allowing students to explore a variety of art materials. Lessons help students make connections to Social Studies, ELA, Science and Math. Ms. Castellano has previous work experience in art education from grades PreK through 12th in urban and suburban settings. She has taught art in both public and private schools in addition to hospital settings and museums. Projects include site specific sculpture, still life, figure drawing, self-portraits, mural painting, and working in the styles of various master artists. In addition, Ms. Castellano has been an adjunct professor in art education at both Mercy College and Manhattanville College where she worked with undergraduate and graduate students.
The visual arts program:
· Encourages media and theme exploration, and connects students to their educational goals
· Incorporates the elements of art and the principals of design
· Includes references to master artists and connections between art and world cultures
· Develops an artist’s portfolio for specialized art high schools, enrichment art programs, and college auditions
Visual Arts classes include:
· Watercolor, Acrylic, Tempera
· Pencil drawing, oil pastel, conte, chalk pastel, pen and ink
· Mixed-media, collage techniques, introductory printmaking
· Three dimensional art including introductory ceramics and sculpture
· Portfolio preparation for students entering high school and college
Classes are divided by skill level and media. There are levels from preschool through adult.
Private lessons are $60 an hour or $300 for six lessons. Semi-private lessons (2-5 students) are $45 an hour. Students select the materials with which they would like to work.
